Time passes quickly and two years flew by like an instant.

Today, the results of the two-year project of UNODC in Kazakhstan on providing technical assistance to the authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan to eliminate the risks of criminal use of virtual assets, fight against cybercrime and prevent cybercrime were summarized. Of course, UNODC will inform about the results in numbers, but by investing own efforts and resources of UMDS partners, there are some results that we are pride and want tell to you.

According to FATF standards, Kazakhstan has successfully passed the next round of mutual evaluations and according to the current requirements for the implementation of 15 FATF Recommendations – all requirements have been implemented, the country is on the list of countries that have a significant part in the global crypto industry and legalized its own crypto market  in 2023.

As a result of numerous trainings, which we conducted for representatives of the law enforcement system and state supervisory bodies, a team of national trainers was created, who spread the acquired knowledge further.

With the help of the project, in the investigation of drug crimes, frauds behind “financial pyramids” in which crypto assets were used, and cybercrimes, court decisions have been issued. As result, some criminal have completely returned the money to the victims.

There was a lot of work, business trips every two months, trainings, international events, consultations, exchange of experience…

We thank the project manager Oleksiy Feshchenko for the inspiration, our partners and blockchain analytics experts Crystal, AMLbot, Global Ledger, Purefi for supporting the development of practical skills of project beneficiaries, and partners in other projects for their experience.

And although the project ended, the work did not stop!)
